Picking the right headset is not an easy task, as there are seemingly countless models on the market these days. From affordable gaming headsets to extremely expensive audiophile-grade monstrosities. While I haven’t gone to those extremes, I have reached out to a few of our favourite brands for some more outside choices that span a few different solutions and price ranges. Of course, previously, many of you would be buying your gaming headsets for, well, gaming. However, many of our kids and many grown-ups are now still juggling things like homeschooling, and a lot more working from home in the wake of the pandemic… like you needed reminding of that! So while throwing big bucks at the likes of Corsair, ASUS, and many others is one solution, what else is out there?
So what have I got to hand today? I have the affordable hero that is the Turtle Beach Recon 200, a wired multi-format headset with value (and one impressive feature) that’s hard to beat. Then I have the HyperX Cloud Alpha, one of the staples of the gaming market in its latest guise. For those who need something a little more flexible and mobile, there’s the Edifier TWS NB2 Pro in-ears, and for something big and advanced, I have the Hi-Res audio XPG PreCog Gaming Headset. However, all these headsets are under £80, because let’s be honest, everything else is getting more expensive in our lives right now, so I want to show you just how much you can get without spending a small fortune.
