Black Myth: Wukong Xbox Release Halted Indefinitely Due to Memory Leak Issue

Black Myth: Wukong, the highly anticipated action RPG, is facing a major setback as its release on Xbox Series X/S has been indefinitely delayed due to a technical issue. The game, developed by Game Science, has been plagued by a “memory leak” issue that causes significant crashes and performance issues.

The Bug Behind the Delay

The issue was first reported by eXtas1s, a known Xbox leaker, who met with several Xbox insiders at Gamescom 2024. They revealed that the game has failed Xbox’s strict bug detection tests twice due to this memory leak. A memory leak happens when a program fails to release memory that is no longer needed, leading to reduced performance and, in this case, game crashes.

The developers are currently working to optimize the game for the Xbox platform, but there is no set timeline for when the game will pass certification. eXtas1s mentioned that the game is “close to being ready” except for the specific error causing the delay.

Despite this setback, Black Myth: Wukong has been a success on other platforms, including PlayStation 5 and PC, where it has already sold over 10 million copies and boosted PS5 sales in China. The delay on Xbox is a significant blow for Microsoft, especially considering the game’s popularity and the challenges Xbox has faced with third-party support.
