Sega’s classic fighting game, Eternal Champions, is getting a movie adaptation. The news comes from a report by The Hollywood Reporter, which reveals that Derek Connolly, known for his work on the Jurassic World trilogy and Detective Pikachu, will be penning the screenplay for the live-action film.
The movie will be produced by Skydance, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger leading the production efforts. Toru Nakahara, who played a key role in the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, will oversee the project for Sega.
Eternal Champions was a unique fighting game that featured characters from various historical periods. The game’s storyline centers around the “Eternal Champion,” a mysterious entity who predicts humanity’s extinction due to the deaths of key individuals throughout history. The Eternal Champion temporarily saves these individuals and organizes a tournament to determine who will be granted a second chance at life.
